Safeguarding & safety

Safeguarding young people comes first.

Every CYP activity is designed and delivered under a clear safeguarding framework. If anything ever feels wrong - speak up. We'll listen, act, and keep you informed.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Every CYP session sits under a named Designated Safeguarding Lead. The DSL is the first point of contact for any concern about a young person's welfare, behaviour change, disclosure, or wellbeing. The DSL liaises with parents, schools, social services, and statutory agencies as needed.

DSL name to be confirmed on launch. Until then, all concerns go to info@causeyouthservice.org.uk.

DBS commitment

Every member of CYP staff and every volunteer working with young people holds an enhanced DBS check. DBS status is reviewed regularly and renewed in line with national guidance. We do not allow unchecked adults to lead, supervise, or be alone with young people.

Reporting concerns - how it works

  1. Anyone - young person, parent, staff member, partner - can raise a concern by emailing the DSL or telling any CYP staff member.
  2. The DSL records the concern, decides immediate actions, and informs the relevant parties (parents, where appropriate).
  3. If the concern involves a safeguarding risk, the DSL refers to children's social care and follows local authority procedures.
  4. Feedback is given to the person who raised the concern, where confidentiality allows.

Risk assessments

Every activity - sessions, trips, workshops, external venues - has a written risk assessment reviewed before delivery. Trips and high-risk activities get additional sign-off from the DSL and require signed parental consent.

Parent & carer communication

Parents and carers are kept informed: clear consent forms, session updates, behaviour conversations, and a named contact at every session. We don't make decisions about young people without their families wherever possible.

Health & safety

CYP holds public liability insurance. First-aiders are on-site at every session. Allergies, medical needs, and special requirements are recorded at sign-up and respected throughout.

Inclusion & neurodiversity

Our inclusion policy means no young person is turned away based on background, ability, neurotype, or circumstance. Read more about our neurodiversity & inclusion approach.
